Europe’s greatest sights are all very well, but let’s face it, traipsing around them can become a little dull. Banish boredom with Competitours, where teams of two complete in a series of challenges that add a new dimension to the travel experience. Quirky and interactive projects let you get under the skin of each destination, hone your video and presentation skills and have great fun along the way. To top it all, the winning team of each trip wins a worldwide travel spree grand prize: with 16 teams maximum, your odds of winning are good.
It’s a bit like the ‘Amazing Race’ TV show, but instead of relying on physical strength and speed, Competitours’ imaginative challenges bring out your creativity and resourcefulness.
Each day pairs of Competitourists are presented with a choice of challenges, with the results judged by video. Each day’s footage is ranked by a panel of judges – and watched by your peers.
The emphasis is on creativity. The recent dress-rehearsal included father/son teams, couples and singletons of all ages. The challenges included:
* Visit the world’s only French Fries Museum in Belgium and provide a 45-60 second description of the museum highlights WITHOUT using the word potato or any potato-related word. * Visit a Viking Ship Museum in Scandanavia and provide a 30 second mock commercial pitching a 10th century Viking Ship a cruise vacation for a 21st century family. * Visit a Rhine River Castle and provide a 30 second explanation of how a medieval instrument of torture could be re-purposed as a non-lethal everyday household item. Tours are designed to match different budgets and trip lengths. You pay nothing until after the trip – a measure of Competitours confidence in their journeys – but stand to gain more. There’s a grand prize – a journey to Asia, Africa or the Far East – up for grabs on every trip. Play your handicam right and it could be you.
The upcoming 9 day trip starting July 28 will feature the opportunity for teams to dethrone a reality TV champion. Tyler MacNiven (aka-The Hippy), the winner of ‘Amazing Race’ Season 9, will be fieldfing a team with his Mother.
Competitours journeys are perfect training for freelance travel journalists for the Youtube generation – and a great way to explore Central and Western Europe. Find out more here.
