Whether you’re travelling from another country or heading from other parts of the UK to London, there are a few things that you’re going to need. When you travel to London, particularly from Europe, it’s important to renew or apply for a European Health Insurance Card from ukehic.com, in order to take advantage of EU healthcare during your trip. Here, we have put together a starter pack with everything you will need when travelling to London.
Weather in London and throughout the rest of the UK can be unpredictable. Just because the weather says it’s going to be sunny all day doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be a stray cloud hovering over ready to offer a quick shower, or a constant downpour. Bringing a collapsible umbrella or at least purchasing one in London is always a good idea to ensure you don’t get caught in the rain. If you prefer, bringing a waterproof jacket is also a good idea and will work just as well, while protecting you from the wind too, which the umbrella won’t do.
Choose Your Shoe Wisely
When travelling to London it is important to bring just two pairs of shoes with you. Shoes take up valuable luggage space so you should always choose your shoes wisely. Bringing a comfortable pair of shoes for sightseeing and walking around London in and bringing a pair of dressy shoes for a night out at a restaurant or the theatre is also a good idea. It’s important to remember that a lot of the streets are cobbled in London too, particularly around the older parts of town and the markets, so high heels aren’t always a good idea.
London is full of history and with Buckingham Palace being home to the Queen there are plenty of opportunities to snap a picture for you to document forever. Bringing a good camera with a good amount of memory storage (or bringing extra memory) is vital if you’re travelling to London. As the capital city of England, you might even bump into someone famous, so having your camera ready for action is a must.
Plug Adaptors (If you’re coming from another country)
Most European and American plugs won’t work in UK plug outlets, so it’s important to bring plug adaptors with you if you plan on staying over or charging your phone/laptop in a café. Most electronics can be used with UK voltage, so you probably won’t need a voltage convertor, but bringing an adaptor is important.
Choose Appropriate Clothing
Choosing appropriate clothing for different occasions is important, but it is equally important to not over pack and weigh down your suitcase or bag. You need to balance weather-resistant clothes with style, particularly if you’re thinking of going out for a night out. Wearing layers can be exceptionally important in the UK, particularly in the evening, as even in the summer it can get quite cold and the weather is unpredictable. Choosing jeans and smart blouses is the perfect way to transition smoothly from day wear to evening-wear.
